Wills that are to be used as a basis for inheritance settlements and probate are public documents that must be signed in front of a notary and registered with the will registry (ultimas voluntades).
The will is registered immediately after signing at the Notary. The testator is only given an unsigned copy. The signed copy is placed in the Notary Public’s archive and is released upon application to the will registry upon submission of the testator’s death certificate.
